Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in major cities and tourist areas in South Africa. ATMs are available all over South Africa, so you can easily withdraw cash using your debit or credit card. It is a good idea to withdraw some cash for tipping, as well as for small purchases at some markets who may only accept cash.  Avoid carrying large amounts of cash with you and be cautious when using ATMs to prevent theft or fraud.
